ALUM Spotlight Trey Humphreys '96

Trey Humphreys '96From pro mascot to innovative business entrepreneur, Thomas "Trey" Humphreys is always game for a new adventure and never one for conventional thinking. Originally from Atlanta, both of Trey's parents went to Auburn, which helped in his decision on where to attend. While at Auburn, Trey proudly and humbly served as Auburn’s national champion mascot, Aubie (#15 and 16). Since graduating from Auburn with a degree in Pre-Vet Zoology, Trey not only turned his undergraduate mascot education into a pro career, but also he is the brain child behind the "not so ordinary" limousine service that has been featured on Trey HumphreysMTV - the Fur Bus.

Q. How did you get the idea to create the Fur Bus?

A.
Billy Stephens (Pharm. D '99 and former Aubie #16 and 17) and I decided to buy a school bus to drive to Las Vegas for New Year's on the millennium. We shagged it out, added lighting and music, and told everyone we were in a band. Once we returned from Vegas, we had a bus and no idea what to do with it. All our friends wanted us to take them around town and one thing led to another and now we have 5 busses in Atlanta and are franchising across the country. Viva Las Vegas!

Fur BusQ. Was there an intentional design process to decorating the interiors?

A. We wanted to create the most gaudy, amazing sight you have ever seen. At first it was what ever fabrics were on sale. Now we actually try and somewhat color coordinate colors to try and attract customers as well as our strong hold female demographics.

Q. What's the funniest experience you've had while renting out the Fur Bus?

A.
There are too many to list. Celebrities, kids parties, stolen bus, naked customers, interesting drivers........

Trey HumphreysQ. What was it like to be Aubie?

A.
Hot. It was a fun ride. Aubie sees every aspect of Auburn and gets to meet fascinating people. For example, I spent two hours with Bo Jackson at his house in Chicago and then took a ride with him in his Viper around the town all for a few shots for our calendar.

Q. How does it compare with being the Atlanta Falcons mascot?

A.
As a pro mascot, you focus more on the business aspect of marketing the character and generating revenue for the team. There is also more flexibility with skit ideas and game day involvement on the pro level. Plus my suit is not as hot as Aubie!
