I’m sure my daughter thought – or at least hoped – that I was teasing when I told her that when she went to college that I was going with her.
She is my only child and we were very close. Plus, I’m a lifelong learner. In fact, she started my first graduate school attempt with me. I was married for three months and the day before my first graduate school mid-term, I learned that I was pregnant. She listened to great literature and took exams before even being born.
After taking some time off, I did eventually finish a Master’s degree in English secondary education and then our lives lead us to Auburn where my daughter began at the Auburn Early Education Center and graduated from Auburn University in 2016 with a degree in Health Sciences.
I did have the opportunity to return to earn my Master’s and Education Specialist in Educational Foundations, Leadership and Technology (2013) during the same time Shelby began college. It was a unique experience, but I know she’s glad that we were in two different departments.
Now, I get to guest teach during the summers at the university and she is in pharmacy school. Nevertheless, to share that experience was a unique bonding that will forever make us proud to yell, among many other reasons, “War Eagle.”
