Here in Auburn, and probably in your homes too, it might as well be Christmas Eve. Preparations for the second-most important holiday of the year are in full-swing, running laps around my head as I make sure every glorious task is completed.
The flag, wreaths and orange and blue trimmings have made their way from beyond the July 4th decorations to see the light of day, their rightful home of course.
The buffalo dip, ham and swiss slider and other pudge-inducing recipes have been pulled—like I even need them anymore—and the grocery lists of tailgating essentials are being compiled. And don’t worry, a few extra rolls of Charmin tops the list.
My Saturday-best is clean, and the fight song is emphatically flowing from my lips at every appropriate (and even inappropriate) moment.
I even have that heavy-chest pitter-patter like Lutzenkirchen is doing a tap dance on my sternum. Surely this is worse than the Christmas Eves of my youth.
Tomorrow can’t get here soon enough. It’s been too long since I’ve been in Jordan-Hare cheering on my Auburn Tigers and belting out “Glory, Glory to Ole Auburn.” And I suspect I’m not the only one feeling like this! How are you feeling about tomorrow? Any preparations I am forgetting?
War Eagle, and here’s to another wonderfully exciting season!
