Club Scholarship Recipient
Nick Smith
Hometown: Birmingham, AL
Major: Music Education-Instrumental
What made you choose to come to Auburn?
It just happened. I came to a War Eagle day, met mainly with the directors in the Music Department, toured campus, and just fell in love with Auburn. My Dad was once a student here, but honestly, that didn’t affect my decision. It was just where I wanted to go, and thank goodness I was accepted, because it was the only place I applied!
How has receiving the Alumni Scholarship impacted your life?
It has helped me immensely! Tuition for an in-state student is still a lot, considering that we don’t have full time jobs, and our number one priority is working hard every day to earn that diploma. Having this scholarship has helped me continue through school, especially with my late change into Music Education from Business. It has helped eliminate some of the worry that financial burdens can place on the mind and also recognized me for my advancement in music, which helps me continue to want to strive for the highest.
What has been your best experience at Auburn so far?
Friendships. Through marching band, and music in general, the friendships you make here are life-long, and I think that is something that everyone can say. You find out how superficial high school relationships were when you enter college, and I am meeting people here that I will know for the rest of my life.
What would you say to a high school student from your area who is considering coming to Auburn University? “Here is an application!” I have actually had the opportunity to recruit many students for Auburn through the Music Department, and I constantly urge them to come see campus, ask questions, and physically see the family atmosphere here. It has been the best decision I have made…and hopefully they will do the same too!
