The Auburn Alumni Association will hold its third annual celebration for graduating students on April 14 at the Alumni Center. The Class of 2016 Send-Off will celebrate the class’ accomplishments and success with food, games, prizes and appearances by Aubie, everyone’s favorite tiger!

Undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students who plan to graduate in May, August and December of this year are welcome to attend the event from 4:00-5:30 p.m.

Although this is the third year that the Alumni Association has hosted a celebration for graduating students, this year’s festivities have evolved to be bigger and better than before.

In past years’ events, the Alumni Association had been both the sole host and a joint host with Auburn Athletics. But this year the event will be hosted campus wide, with several different colleges and organizations participating.

This year’s send-off will be the finale of a week of celebrations. Throughout the week leading up to the main event, students can post on social media to be entered in prize drawings, have opportunities to take pictures with Aubie and other Auburn VIPs and thank university donors on Thank A-You Day, which is Wednesday, April 13.

The Class of 2016 Send-Off will also give students last-minute chances to check things off their Auburn bucket list, also called the AUsome list! Students are encouraged to post pictures of themselves checking off items on their AUsome Lists along with the hashtag #co2016soAU.

On the day of the main event, free food will be available for attendees. The AU Rhythm dance team will perform, and the Raptor Center will be there for photo opps and educational demonstrations. The Alumni Association will be giving away prizes such as portfolios, flash drives and a new diploma frame from Churchill Classics. Students will also be able to use the Memories in Motion Bus, a vintage Volkswagen bus with a photo booth inside, to commemorate the event.

The send-off this year surrounds the new opportunity to receive a Commemorative Medallion with a gift of $20.16 or more. The medallion was first available to students who graduated in December 2015, but this is the first full year that they will be available.

Giving a Commemorative Medallion gift allows alumni to better Auburn at any level; alumni can give in recognition of a favorite professor, college or organization, or they can donate to the university at large. Students who pre-order them can wear them with pride in their commencement ceremonies. Medallions will be available for purchase and pickup during the event next Thursday.

As we count down the days to graduation, we ask: what’s on YOUR AUsome List?
