During the very first week of my freshman year at Auburn my mother passed away. Her death marked the beginning of a series of personal tragedies in my life. It was an extremely hard time for me which made concentrating on my studies difficult. I was close to packing up my belongings and moving back home to Montgomery. However, as I began to make friends and got involved in several campus organizations, I decided to stay in school.
Today, my Auburn family is still as strong, if not stronger than it was in 1990. At Auburn, I gained a network [of sisters and brothers] that I can lean on, rely on, and trust. Even in the years after I graduated, my Auburn family has expanded exponentially, and I love it!
Being an Auburn alumna is one of my favorite accomplishments. I relish in the opportunity to give back to the university that’s given so much to me. I encourage all alums to give back and get involved!
