FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT

I hope your summer was spent making cherished memories. The beginning of mine included cheering on the baseball team as they earned a well deserved spot in the College World Series. Those of us who have been around baseball all our lives certainly appreciate the effort, talent, perseverance and strategy it takes not only to have a successful regular season but to move forward, host a regional for the first time in 12 years and earn a spot in Omaha. Coach Butch Thompson, fellow coaches and our talented players showed us how to play the game in spectacular fashion and we owe them our gratitude for some thrilling memories.

Over the past two years, I have had the privilege of making historical memories with Auburn Alumni Association President Regenia Sanders. Because of her recognized leadership and service, she was elected as our first African American president. Even though her tenure coincided with a global pandemic and heightened social unrest, she managed to guide us through a challenging time with grace and enthusiasm. Her unique and calming presence was instrumental in ensuring the association not only achieved great things but thrived in innovative and new ways. She has made the association and university more inclusive and stronger with her support of the Black alumni and young alumni councils. These important volunteer leaders have already provided valuable perspective and commitment to our university. Thank you, Regenia, for your leadership, friendship and love of Auburn.

There are a lot more Auburn memories to make on the Plains this fall. Please join your fellow alumni association members in the Auburn Alumni Center on September 24 and November 12 for The Huddle Tailgates. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
